THE GOOD: The overall plot was a fun little women empowerment promotion. Honestly the amount of female characters in comics it's only justified that something like this makes it to the big stage. The action scenes were really well done and the way most fought complied with their own "style. The costumes for the most part were well conceived. I particularly liked the approach for Huntress and Black Mask.
THE BAD: Ewan McGregor was wasted in this movie. As far as his performance, it was spot on for Black Mask's personality. Sadly, he never actually gets to showcase what actually makes HIM particularly dangerous. He get relegated to a cowardly big bad that hides behind henchmen and gets taken out by a child. The worst part is you have such a talented actor as McGregor AND YOU KILL HIM OFF. I understand he may not have reprised the role in The Batman later on but why waste the talent without him really getting to showcase it.
THE UGLY: For any comic fan, you probably already know what this is about. Cassandra Cain! In comics she is one of the most dangerous hand to hand fighters of all the Bat family. Basically this movie could have used Suzie from apartment 308 and not have changed the story one bit. Instead they decided to completely destroy any semblance to who Cassandra Cain really is. She was never taught to talk. She was taught to Express her emotions through combat by her father, David Cain. (One of the deadliest assassins in DC) In her first showing, Cassandra could momentarily hold her own against Batman himself as a 12 yr old. This movie delegate her to a bubble gum chewing, oblivious, horrible pick pocket. Cassandra becomes Batgirl not long after meeting Batman because she is capable of holding her own with little training from him. Most his training he gives her is to be less lethal. So how do you throw everything about this character out the window? The only resemblance between the movie and comic is the name and asain heritage. This character deserved SO much better. For those casual fans picture Hitgirl (from Kickass) but more serious and arguably more skilled.
